Guest Speaker Rabbi Marty Waldman - The Glory and the Shame: A Palm Sunday Story

THE GLORY AND THE SHAME

A Palm Sunday Story

Passover Preparation…

In order to bring Exodus 12 to its fullest meaning Yeshua (Jesus) arrived in Jerusalem on the 10th day of Nisan.  On the 14th day of Nisan the Passover lamb would be slain by each household.

The blood of the lamb was then applied to the doorway of each house so it would be visible; “When I see the blood I will pass over you” during Egypt’s judgment

What a Glorious Sunday!

Could Yeshua’s followers have asked for a better day? (forgotten grief of Yeshua’s warning)

For a mile outside of Jerusalem…Jewish people were lined up with palm branches, hailing Yeshua as the son of David, King of Israel (see Zech.9:9 King coming on donkey)

Son of David” was/is the designation for the promised King Messiah who would/will bring great salvation to Israel.

Hosanna… Matthew 21:9

The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting,
         "Hosanna to the Son of David;
BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN   THE NAME OF THE LORD;
         Hosanna in the highest!"

This prophetic and historic cry was quoted from Psalm 118

Psalm 118 A Messianic Prophecy

One of the Hallel Psalms (113-18){Pesach}

This is the gate of the LORD;  The righteous will enter through it. (v.20)

The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief corner stone! (v.22)

Please O LORD, save us! (Hosanna)                Please O LORD, rescue us! (v.25)

Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the LORD (v.26) {see Matt.23:39}

Association with Yeshua (Jesus)

On Palm Sunday Yeshua was hailed as King and His disciples were proud to be by His side and associated with Him.

In fact, just a short time before this day Yeshua’s disciples were fighting to see who would sit on His right or left during His Kingship and glory in Israel. (Matt.20)

But, a few days later He was arrested, put on trial and sentenced to die = SHAME

They Had Been Warned: Matt.26:31-35

Yeshua said: “You will all fall away because of Me this night…Peter, you will deny me”

Peter said, Even if I have to die…I will not deny You.  All the disciples said the same thing.

When Yeshua was betrayed and arrested, “Then all the disciples left Him and fled” (v.56)

After Yeshua’s resurrection they could still be found locked in a house in Jerusalem.

Afraid and ashamed Yeshua found them...

Redemption and Restoration

He found His disciples and restored them by the breath of His mouth…His blood, His Word and His Spirit.

He finds us...restores us the same way

Heb.12:2-3  To redeem us and set us free Yeshua endured the cross; He despised the shame of it but endured because of the joy set before Him.  Consider Him so you won’t loose heart and give up!

Glory in the Shame: Integrity, Loyalty

If we will remain with Yeshua in His weakness and shame He will entrust us with power and glory…He remains with us!

Rom.1:16  I am not ashamed of the gospel, it is the power of God…

1Tim.2:11-13…a trustworthy statement: If we died with Him we shall live with Him; if we endure with Him we shall reign with Him, if we deny Him…

Don’t Fear but Rejoice!

Jeremiah 29:11  For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.

This is the hope of Israel and should be our hope when we come near to Yeshua!

Every Messianic Jew and every Christian should have the living hope of our living Messiah whose return is at hand!!!

We Have a Living Hope!

1 Pt. 1:3-5  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Yeshua the Messiah from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Can I Make a Difference?

One man, Moses, interceded for Israel to stay God’s hand from destroying the nation in the wilderness.  (Num.14)

One man, Achan, by his own greed and selfish desires caused great harm and defeat for Israel  (Josh.7)

If death reigned by the transgression of the one, Adam, much more…grace and the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah.  (Rom.5)

Palm Beach or Palm Sunday?

The Glory and the Shame is everyone’s story because our lives are hidden with Messiah, so…Palm Beach or Palm Sunday?

Colossians 3:2-4  Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Messiah in God. When Messiah, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory!
